UX Design Agencies, AI UX Design Brief Generator from Discovery Calls

A designer uploads the discovery call recording, the client's site URL, screenshots and any analytics export, and gets back a full UX design brief within minutes: problem statement, goals, personas, jobs-to-be-done, user flows, KPIs, scope and out-of-scope, risks, a research plan and a list of open questions for the client. Every line links back to the moment in the call it came from, and the client reviews, comments on and approves it through a private link.

    Build it yourself, free

This blueprint is free. Copy the master prompt below, build it with your own time, and the only outlay is a few low-cost tool subscriptions. Use it inside your own business, or sell it to clients. The numbers further down are what you can charge, not what you pay.

    Who you sell it to

UX and product design agencies with 3 to 30 people, freelance UX designers who run their own discovery calls, and product studios that take on redesigns and new builds. The best fit is a team that runs at least 4 discovery calls a month and still writes briefs by hand from scribbled notes and a half-watched Zoom recording. You find them on Clutch, Dribbble and Behance agency listings, in LinkedIn searches for 'UX agency founder' or 'product design studio', and in design Slack and Discord communities.

The pitch lands hardest with owners who have been burned by scope creep on a fixed-fee project, because the explicit out-of-scope list and the client sign-off are what they wish they had last time. An agency can also build this for itself and sell faster discovery as part of its own offer.

If you sell it, here is the money picture:

The first tile is the value of your client's own jobs, which is the reason they will pay you. The other two tiles are what you charge them.

What your client's own work is worth
$2,500-$15,000 for a standalone UX discovery phase, and $25,000-$60,000 for a typical UX agency project that the approved brief kicks off
    Their revenue, not your fee
    Setup fee you charge
    $2,500-$4,500
    One-off, paid to you
    Monthly retainer you charge
    $197-$397
    Recurring, paid to you

    How it works

After a discovery call, the designer opens a new session, uploads the recording (or pastes the Zoom, Teams or Meet transcript), adds the client's website URL, drags in screenshots, attaches a GA4 or Mixpanel CSV if the client shared one, and types any extra notes. The app pulls audio out of video in the browser, sends it to OpenAI's speaker-labelled transcription model, reads the website's headings, navigation and buttons, summarises the analytics, and looks at the screenshots. Then it writes the brief section by section, with each claim tied to a timestamped quote or a file.

Anything the client never said is marked as an assumption and turned into a question for the client, and contradictions between speakers (say the CEO wants a Q1 launch and the product lead says Q3) are flagged at the top. The designer edits, regenerates any weak section with a one-line instruction, then shares a branded link. The client comments on any section, answers the open questions inline and approves with a typed name.

Each published edit is saved as a version, with a side-by-side diff and the approved version locked.

    What to expect

Expect a usable first draft in 3 to 6 minutes for a 60-minute call, and expect the designer to spend 30 to 60 minutes tightening it rather than a morning writing from scratch. The AI cost is tiny: transcription runs at about $0.006 per minute (about $0.36 for an hour-long call) and a GPT-5 brief usually costs well under $1, so a busy agency doing 20 briefs a month spends roughly $15-$25 on AI. The bigger win is commercial.

Scope creep shows up on about half of all projects (PMI's Pulse of the Profession put it at 52%), and a signed brief with an explicit out-of-scope list is the document you point to when the client asks for 'just one more flow'. Caveats: the brief is only as good as the call, so a vague 20-minute chat produces a draft full of assumptions (which is useful in itself, because the open questions list becomes the follow-up email). Audio quality matters, and call recording needs consent, so add a consent line to your booking invite before the first pilot.

Once the web version is proven, wrapping it as a real iOS and Android app with AppBuild.DIY means designers get a push notification the moment a client approves or answers a blocker question, which is when the project can actually start.
